Goa Off-beat ; A walk through the Portuguese era…

Imagine yourself, taking a sunbath on the beaches of Goa, where the waves of Arabian Sea are gently touching and cleansing your foot. Doesn’t it fills you thrill !! Well, to me..it does !!

However, Goa is famous for its beaches, sea-food, multiple cuisines, and many more things….but there’s is another side of the destination. One can say Goa is a full package terminus.

Well, today I’m here to give you a slight glimpse of the Portuguese establishment. The developments that occured in that era are still alive in Velha Goa, or The Old Goa.
One day, I tell you, while returning back from The Divar Island, we lost our way by chance. The GPS in our mobile devices showed us the location somewhere near the Church of St. Augustine.

The Church was completed in 1602 and is also a part of World Heritage Site. Although, only a tower is left from the ruins and still works as a landmark for many small unmentioned places on the Google Map.

There are many things you can explore in Goa that are worthy enough to fulfill your Nature Lover soul.

And No !! … they’re not beaches !!

As the title of the blog says, A walk through in the times of The Portuguese era, a trip to Fountainhas is enough to give you the influence of that period.

This place, I tell you, had all my heart, the time I entered this part of the city.

The place, Fountainhas, was founded in the late 18th century by a Portugese man, named, Antonio Joao de Sequeira. This name will be highlighted on the Google Map, the moment you reach your destination.

This place is located in Panjim and is also known as the Latin Quater of Goa. It is located on the foot of Althino Hills, which is also named after Antonio Joao de Sequeira.

This area is a hub of many beautiful and colorful houses and also an abode to many Hindu Brahmins and Indian Christian families.

Fountainhas is the oldest Latin colony in Goa, and is very much similar to any Mediterranean city, which includes narrow and picturesque winding lanes and streets and balconies painted down with pale yellow, green, blue and the roofs of the houses are made with red colored tiles.

There’s so much to explore and visualize that one can easily feel tired, so did we !!
So we took some rest and coffee at The Bombay Coffee Roasters, located in Fountainhas only. There are several other hertitage homes that have now been converted in some exotic cafes or hotels.

Later, it was there, at ViVa Panjim that we took our lunch and had got an opportunity to taste the delicious ‘Bebinca’. That was really a treat for my taste buds.

It is the Goan famous dezzert, that I would say that one must taste while their visit to Goa.
I totally loved this one !!

I was really impressed by the fact that the people in Goa are so conservative about what they have got in their past and are very much stern to preseve so it can enrich their future generations.

And that’s the real beauty of Goa !!

Thats all for now folks !!
Hope you did have found this blog worthy and informative !!

Keep on exploring, keep on growing and always stay in touch with Nature….
and…..
keep on rocking !!
